Our Commitment

James Barnes, MD is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility.

Conformance Status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some content does not fully conform to the accessibility standard. We are actively working to identify and remediate gaps.

Our most recent audit covered every published page. All issues it identified — including color contrast, ARIA tab semantics, focusable aria-hidden controls, unlabeled map markers, and duplicate or missing landmark regions — have been corrected, and the audit now reports no detected violations.

Remaining known limitations:

• Screen reader testing — our audit uses automated checks and manual keyboard testing. We have not yet completed testing with screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS, or VoiceOver. Automated tools cannot detect every barrier, so some issues may remain.
• Skip link — the skip-to-main-content link is present on all content pages but is absent from the temporary coming-soon page shown while the full site is being prepared.
• Third-party content — the scheduling portal and Google Maps embed are provided by external vendors and may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA. We are working with those vendors to improve accessibility.

This website relies on the following technologies for conformance with WCAG 2.1:

The website has been tested using automated axe audits (WCAG 2.1 A, AA, and best-practice rule sets) and manual keyboard navigation testing across all published pages.

Accessibility Features

• Skip navigation link — a "Skip to main content" link appears at the top of all content pages when focused, allowing keyboard users to bypass the navigation menu.
• Keyboard navigation — navigation, article content, FAQ sections, and subscription forms are fully operable by keyboard, with correct tab order verified by automated testing.
• Focus indicators — a visible 3px focus ring appears on all interactive elements when navigated by keyboard.
• Reduced motion — animated carousels and transitions are disabled when the operating system's "reduce motion" preference is set.
• Pause controls — auto-advancing carousels include a pause/play button and pause automatically on hover or keyboard focus.
• ARIA labels and landmarks — landmark regions, ARIA labels, and live announcements are used throughout content pages.
• Descriptive alt text — all meaningful images include descriptive alternative text.
• New tab warnings — links that open in a new tab include a screen-reader notification injected automatically.
